Campaign in Poetry...
I don't do politics, so Bill is visiting for a good reason. He advised another politician in another country to "Always keep communicating". It should be the motto for any leader.
Really, poetry. The source of that quote is at the end of this page*, and all it means is that to encourage debate and involvement, to release creativity.....sometimes we all need to put the message on steroids, and exaggerate to make a point. Rise above the day to day. Make an event of your event. That’s not always easy to do from the inside. Familiarity mitigates against message. No matter how valid, how radical, how essential. It’s often easier to believe – it's given more weight – if it comes from outside. If you want to tune in to where you want to go and to make a compelling case for the reason why, maybe we can learn from each other, maybe we can help. The businesses I'm involved with are innovators with vibrant corporate personalities. *The source? Mario Cuomo, former mayor of New York, said “You campaign in poetry. You govern in prose.” So very true – and the poetry must come first. I found this in probably the best book ever written on managing a professional services firm. Have a look at the blogs to see what that is.
